KWS Provides Technical Field Services for Plant Expansion
Introduction
The US animal feed industry is growing and produced over 300 million tons of safe, high quality, and nutritious food in 2023. Beef cattle, hogs, and dairy cattle combined to consume over 175 million tons of animal feed in 2023. Screw conveyors are the primary method of conveying grains and ingredients for the feed industry.
Challenge
An East Texas feed operation needed technical field services for a plant expansion. Without the resources to hire a consulting engineering firm, the feed mill owners were seeking a screw conveyor manufacturer that also provides engineering services. Existing equipment needed to be carefully measured and new conveying equipment designed, manufactured, and delivered to meet the needs of the plant.
KWS Advantage
The owners of the feed operation contacted KWS, and a technical field specialist immediately went to the plant. All dimensions of the existing equipment were documented. Communicating and understanding production requirements, installation concerns and a desire for the absolute best product in the market were key issues for the customer. The load out screw feeder in the floor was very important to the success of the project. With multiple inlets, KWS sized the screw feeder for the desired load out capacity and fully loaded or “upset conditions.”
The project was completed well before local harvest time, allowing for plant personnel to be trained in operation as well as maintenance. KWS provided training and start up assistance as a value added service.
