Leveling Screws Maximize Storage Capacity at Sawmill
Challenge
Sawdust is a waste product reclaimed during the lumber making process and used for particle board, compost, fuel pellets, and many other products. Screw conveyors are commonly used in sawmills for most bulk material handling, due to their compact design and reliable operation.
Thompson Fabricating designs and manufactures portable containers for many different industries, including solid waste, construction, recycling, and environmental. A local sawmill needed roll off containers for sawdust storage. Sawdust is very light and sluggish to convey. Maximizing storage volume in the roll off containers was important. KWS proposed the use of leveling screws to distribute sawdust evenly inside each container.
KWS Advantage
KWS provided leveling screws with heavy duty construction that mounted inside dust tight roll off containers. Each leveling screw was provided with custom mounting plates to be welded to the ends of the dumpster. KWS included grease purgeable shaft seals to completely contain the sawdust and prevent fugitive dust. A flange-mounted drive unit powers each leveling screw. Screw rotation can be reversed so the dumpster is filled to maximum capacity.
