KWS Manufacturing

KWS Provides Expedited Delivery of Screw Conveyor for Fluid Engineering

General Description

Fluid Engineering provides engineering services and equipment solutions for many applications involving pumping, material handling, and air pollution control. With a focus on the chemical, food, plastics, power generation, and pulp & paper industries, Fluid Engineering has over 200 years of combined experience to offer their customers.

Fluid Engineering and KWS have worked together on multiple projects to solve bulk material handling problems. A new screw conveyor was needed for a project for Sonoco Products in Hartselle, AL to transfer saw dust from an existing KWS screw conveyor to another part of the process.

Design Parameters

  1. Product Type: Saw Dust
  2. Design Temperature: Ambient
  3. Material Density: 20 Lbs. per Cubic Foot
  4. Capacity: 600 Cubic Feet per Hour
  5. Duty: Intermittent

KWS Advantages

KWS had already provided 3 screw conveyors for the project. Adding another screw conveyor was easy because KWS understood the project requirements. Sunoco Products had a shutdown and Fluid Engineering needed the equipment onsite within three weeks. KWS accepted the challenge to design, manufacture, and deliver the new screw conveyor in 3 weeks.

KWS Special Features

KWS utilized CEMA standard conveyor components to expedite design and delivery. Inlet and discharge bolt patterns were also CEMA standard so the interface between equipment was seamless. KWS stocks CEMA standard components including screws, troughs, and all accessories to have the best lead time in the market.

A screw conveyor drive with shaft-mounted reducer was provided based on project requirements. This drive arrangement has been common in the bulk material handling industry for over 75 years. Replacement components are kept in stock at Sunoco Products in case of an unexpected failure.

Two KWS safety bolts are installed on every cover in opposite corners to prevent access to moving components. Locating the safety bolts on opposite corners maximizes the safety benefit without delaying access to the equipment by trained maintenance personnel. KWS ships the special tools with each assembled conveyor, enclosed in a packet with additional safety and operation information.
